Meta Verified — The Inside Scoop
Now you can pay for verification on Instagram and Facebook. But is it worth the hype?
If you're at all plugged into the social media world, you'll know META Verified has been a hot topic the past month.
Instagram and Facebook now offer a paid verification subscription available to individuals and personal brands. Beginning in 2018, you could request verification, and with appropriate credentials, supporting press, and a lucky connection, you could get the coveted blue checkmark.
Fast forward to the present — the new verification status is offered in the form of a subscription that's open to all, no matter the follower count or "status." With a government photo ID to prove your identity, you’ll be able to sign up for the program.
META Verified offers the following:
Account Verification (the blue check badge)
Proactive Account Impersonation Protection
Access to Exclusive Stickers for Facebook and Instagram Stories (and Facebook Reels)
100 Stars per Month to Support Other Creators
Dedicated Human Support Agents
With this in mind, you’ll want to note that:
META Verified is only available to individuals, not brands, business pages, or organizations.
For iOS and Android users, a subscription costs $14.99 USD per month.
This opportunity relates to Facebook(Meta) OR Instagram. As per the Meta Verified guidelines, you’ll be required to subscribe to each platform separately to get the checkmark on each.
The OG's are grandfathered in with their blue badge but do not receive the extra perks mentioned above.
Our Official Thoughts:
At this time, I have mixed feelings about its actual value for business owners/ content creators as I know Meta is constantly experimenting, and the end product doesn’t always meet the expectations of its intentions.
I also think what it will be in the future might be more than what it is now, but being grandfathered in now could be a perk. I also think the value of the checkmark is being diluted with every user who subscribes to the program. It has a different meaning now, it doesn’t represent status anymore but the true authenticity of an account. Lastly, I truly hope that the promise of real human tech support will be as responsive and helpful as they say it will be.
