OOO & Social Media: How The Two Can Co-Exist

Are You Unsure How to Unplug?

No matter the season, vacations are necessary for work/life balance and self-care. If you’re itching to get away or just need some downtime, you’re definitely not alone. But switching from work mode to vacation mode isn’t the easiest for most — especially if you’re busy running the social media of your business. We also know it’s challenging to unplug when you feel like your accounts are tracking good momentum.

Here are a few tips to help you effectively manage your social media while happily being unplugged:

  • Plan for, batch, and schedule your content in advance. By utilizing automation and planning systems, you can appear “business as usual” while being away and disconnected.

  • Bulk-organize organic story content by saving templates and images in an album on your phone.

  • Bulk schedule photo carousel posts and simple B-Roll style video reels, so you don’t need to create or edit video reels or graphics. (You can even schedule both of these kinds of posts in the Instagram app.)

  • Create lighter content and/or cut back on posting. (There’s NO shame in taking a break from engaging or being on the app. Your people will still be there when you return!)

Don’t hesitate to post lighter, edu-taining content. You may find it actually performs better because, during the summer and holiday months, everyone else is also more “unplugged”!

Also, understand that if your reach or engagement dips during these seasons, it could be affected because there’s less people scrolling the app. It’s normal, and it affects most accounts during this time of year. Everyone needs some OOO time.

A Word From The CEO

“If you want to completely unplug, I’d recommend maintaining your Instagram Stories on-the-go and let your followers know you won’t be posting as much. PIN that post to the top of your feed and move on with your life.”

OOO Without the MIA

Set yourself up for post-vacation success with these pro tips:

We’re all for connection-based content, and a great way to jump back into a normal posting schedule is to upload a “photo dump” from where you were. Share some highlights from your trip or occasion, tag the shops or places you visited, and get some reposting circulating. Let everyone know how excited and rejuvenated you are to get back into your normal routine.

Also, schedule your OOO to a little later than your actual return date, and better yet, don’t set your Slack back to active until you’ve caught up from your vacation. This way, you can ease back into work mode in a more controlled and seamless way.
